The Brief:
Pickle Plumbing (formerly JBC Plumbing) entered a highly competitive Hobart market where most plumbing brands looked and sounded the same, relying on safe, generic messaging around reliability and service. While the business itself stood out through its professionalism, clear communication, and high-quality customer experience, this differentiation was not reflected in its branding or marketing.
We built a brand from the ground up that captured their personality, reflected their premium service, and created a strong foundation for future growth, while clearly distinguishing them in a saturated market.
The core challenge lay in balancing trust and professionalism with a bold, creative, and unconventional identity that would break category norms without compromising credibility.

Strategy, Website & Design
Our focus first turned to brand strategy: hosting workshops to define the brand’s identity, their values, and how their brand should be communicated. This ensured every creative decision was grounded in a clear brand direction.
We then developed a unique visual identity that paid homage to retro and American design influences, the client’s personality and interests, and a desire to break category norms. The result is a playful yet professional brand that stands out immediately.
We then rolled the brand out across all touch points, from a standard WordPress website design and development, branded uniforms, and visual assets and templates, to photography and video content shot in a retro-style Tasmanian home. Everything launched cohesively, creating immediate brand impact.
Ultimately, we approached the brand with a simple, colloquial idea: “What you use when you’re in a pickle”. This created a down-to-earth, memorable hook that strengthened alignment between the brand name, messaging, and services.
